As they have in years past, the ÜberBots attended yet another fun-filled Avon Day. We set up in our signature corner booth, and spread the joys of science and technology to our community. This year saw the return of the popular hair coloring, tattoo-applying and ball-throwing shenanigans. In addition, the team also lead the first ever Avon Day parade, winding through booths with their award-winning 2008 Robot, Lightning on the way to the stage. There, the team gave an excellent presentation in front of an audience of hundreds, explaining our history, achievements and what we do. And even in the midst of all the commotion, the team found time to take pictures with Simsbury Bank, Dr. Kisiel and Mr. Beaudin. To round off the day, the team participated in the 2nd annual pie eating contest, which was won by none other than team president Sirui Sun.

All in all, it was a great day, and our congratulations and thanks go out to all who participated. For all those interested, our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 2nd.

     See you there!

   September 23rd, 2008

The ÜberBots started off the official 2008-2009 season on a great foot tonight at our first public meet. Buoyed by the biggest turnout in our collective memories with 16 new members, the team wasted no time. Splitting into subteams, the old members refamiliarized themselves even as they shared their knowledge and enthusasim with the newer members. As the night progressed, we laid down the foundations of what is sure to be a highly successful and tightly motivated squad, and had fun while doing it.

There will be another meeting on Thursday at 7pm, September 25th, in preparation for Avon Day on the 27th or 28th (depending on the weather). New members are reminded to bring $10 to buy a team shirt, and also to bring any friends who would be interested. Also, the team would like to invite anyone who missed the first meeting to catch up with us on Thursday - it's not too late to join!

   Hey everyone!

This last Tuesday and Wednesday, The ÜberBots were invited to attend the Medi2008 Conference at the Hartford Convention Center, where they demonstrated their robot in front of many leaders in the medical field.    Hey everybody,

As you may or may not know, the ÜberBots have been invited to present at the Medi2008 Convention, this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday (9/9 - 9/10) from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at the Hartford Convention Center. We will be bringing our robot, and will be given a 10 x 20 foot booth. This is a great opportunity for all, but especially to those those who are interested in the field of medicine, since many highly respected doctors will be attending the Convention. We will need people to talk about our program, as well as at least one 1st and 2nd driver.

If you\'re interested in going, please e-mail Sirui Sun at sirui_sun@yahoo.com. Rides will be arranged via carpool/independent travel, since this is an outside of school activity. Also, be sure to wear your 2008 ÜberBots shirts!

     Thanks,
     The Management Team

   Saturday, August 30th

     Hi everyone!

We are pleased to announce that the pre-school meeting was highly successful. As soon as we got to the room, the team embarked on a furious clean-up of the room, and our workspace is clean once again. In addition, we discussed pre-season recruitment strategies, locking up items, and worked on the display case.

It was a good first step on the way to an excellent season, and we thank all who participated.

Hey everybody (mentors & prospective mentors included)!

As summer winds down, the three time Connecticut winning ÜberBots are looking forward to starting anew. For the first time ever we are getting together for a pre-school meeting on Saturday, August 30th from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm at Avon High School. During this meeting we will prepare for the upcoming year (design and make school posters, straighten up the room, set up our new trophy case, etc…), share our pre-season activities, bond as a team and just have fun. In special celebration of our tremendous accomplishments and as an extra incentive, free pizza will be made available to everyone who arrives at the school before 9:45 am and stays for lunch, all others bring $5. Please wear your blue ÜberBots shirts. (If we have extra shirts, we should bring them to sell, can some one find out?) This will be a great opportunity to catch up, share your thoughts and reunite before the start of another busy and fun season. Feel free to invite new people to come see what the ÜberBots are all about.

     See you there!

   Hello everyone,

Hope everybody has been enjoying their summer so far. Over summer ’08, the team has tried to further boost its awareness in the eyes of the community. In late July, the management team represented the ÜberBots at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ annual Joint Propulsion Conference at the Convention Center in Hartford. There, the ÜberBots, in cooperation with Aces High and Buzz, demonstrated their robots in front of a crowd of veteran engineers and scientists, helping to spread awareness in the FIRST program. In mid-August, the team held a demonstration at the Canton Shoppes before a showing of Transformers, an event which reached hundreds of local residents and also acted as a fundraiser for the team.

In the upcoming weeks, the team has quite a few activities planned, including a demo at Simsbury bank, a showing at the Medi 2008 Convention at the Hartford Convention Center, a project with the Police Department, and more! Stay tuned for updates, and in the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!

The ÜberBots attended the Where's Wolcott Invitational at Tyrrell Middle School in Wolcott, Connecticut. This post-season scrimmage involved 12 teams, and was played in a 2v2 format. Coming into the contest, the ÜberBots had high hopes and expectations. But by lunchtime, such dreams seemed to be rapidly disappearing. A confluence of events had left the team with a 1-3 record as they walked to the cafeteria, and the ÜberBots found themselves in dire straits.
Then came one of the greatest comebacks in the ÜberBots' history. Rallied by some mysterious force after lunch (perhaps just their full stomachs), the team first won the fastest lap and most hurdles competitions, and then went a perfect 5-0 in the second half of the qualification matches. In addition, they won both the Friendliest Team and Best Robot Design Awards. They then went on to be picked by Team 195, the CyberKnights, becoming the 2nd seeded alliance going into the playoffs. There, they skipped the Quarterfinals and swept the Semis before losing in the Finals to Teams 181 and 230. All in all, it was an exciting and educational experience, and congratulations on a job well done to all who attended.
